YDC Values and Guidelines
YDC works within the guidelines of anti-discriminatory practice, and will promote ongoing development of anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practice whether this comes from the service user, a member of staff, any other professional or the general public.
YDC work with a wide circle of people from different religions, cultures, races and so on. YDC wishes to ensure that all their staff is committed to:
- The promotion of anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice to ensure that YDC services are adhered to under the jurisdiction of equal opportunities policies
- Respecting all colleagues, volunteers and students individual race, gender, sexuality, age, language, ability, disability, religion, literacy or any other personal differences
- Promoting anti-racist and anti-discriminatory behaviour
Policies and Procedures
YDC has a holistic Health and Safety Policy and is bound to abide by the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. This states that certain duties on all staff and volunteers working in the office environment.
YDC employee's duties are to take care of their own safety and that of students, colleagues, volunteers and visitors and to co-operate with the Executive Committee.
Risk Assessments are carried out regularly at each YDC site which includes taking part in a quarterly fire drill exercise.
All YDC staff receive training on how Health and Safety, Duty of Care, Risk Assessment, Equal Opportunities and Child Protection issues relate to their position.
Through its Equal Opportunities, Diversity and Values and Code of Practice Policies, YDC ensures that all its applicants, employees and participants are treated with respect and are afforded equal opportunities in recruitment, training, promotion and terms and conditions of employment.

In relation to Part 4 of the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act, YDC, as an alternative education provider:
- Will not 'treat disabled students, potential students, staff or applicants less favourably for a reason related to their disability'
- Will 'provide reasonable adjustments for disabled learners'
