About YDC

YDC was set up with young people in mind, and if you ask a young person about school, education and their future endeavors the majority will tell you that school is hard and they find the subjects difficult.

When it comes to the future of most young people, they have very little idea about what they want to do as a career or what their future training needs should be.

YDC has taken the time to question the people that really matter in order to ascertain their real thoughts and feelings and why some struggle to survive in the mainstream school setting. By doing so, we have the views of the persons that really matter rather than the ideas, knowledge and wisdom of the adults and educators. By interviewing teenagers and young people and compiling their views we have managed to come up with a holistic and realistic programmed that is simple, practical, and very much to the point. The ethos is to achieve positive results and the best possible outcomes.

At YDC our aim is to provide alternative education for children and young people who, for a variety of reasons, are not able to function in mainstream school settings.

We pride ourselves on our ability to reach children and young people from different ethnic backgrounds, cultures and religions - diversity is at the forefront of our service. We believe that every young person deserves to have the opportunity to achieve the best results that they can within the education system. We also believe that it is not impossible to engage the young person in key stages in a way that is non-threatening, comfortable and safe.

Our staff ratio is 2:10. YDC staff are specialists in working with young people with difficult behaviour and are committed to providing positive teaching and support to the young people who come into contact with YDC. We pride ourselves on getting young people to engage with our programme and learn from the many new experiences provided within our service. We endeavour to keep our staff fully up to date and trained in areas of working with young people.
